Gang,

When I try to burn a cd (anything: data/audio etc..), the burn button stays ghosted (unselectable). The medium box says that I need to insert media, but its already in the drive. I'm using the k3b from the standard opensuse 10.3 install:

k3b --version gives:

Qt: 3.3.8
KDE: 3.5.7 "release 72.6"
K3b: 1.0.3

No errors are reported when k3b starts and the drive looks a.o.k. in the settings->configure k3b->devices. Any ideas? No problems before in 10.2.

FYI, I can play audio cd's (Amarok, but only with Xine backend) and open them in Konqueror just fine.

First. Make sure your k3b is from packman.

so you know it is not the drive problem, so must be a problem with the program, make sure it is from packman as suggested above, are you using the latest version? if not sure try downloading it. if that fails then possibly try to download a trial version of nero linux (just google nero linux), and see if that works. if it does it's def a k3b problem. are you sure the disc you are using is blank?

CD's definitely blank. Tried k3b on my server with the same problem (completely different machine and drive). I'll try Packman's version tonight. Let you know. Thanks.

---- Update -----

Just tried packman's k3b (1.0.4) and no go. I think it may be a permissions issue, but I checked /dev/sr0 which is the cdrw drive:

brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 0 2008-02-28 02:18 /dev/sr0

I belong to the disk group, so it should be fine. I'll give Nero a try later and see if it has an issue. It seems things have changed in 10.3 on how the drive is mounted these days. There used to be a drive mount point, but not any more. Let you know.

--- Update again ---

Ok. They don't call me 6-sigma for nothing. Yes it was a blank CD, but it was no good. It was brand new from the pack. I tried another and it seems to be fine. Thanks for the responses. You guys rock.

hmm, that is rather strange for them both to have the same problem. although it does help us in finding the problem. it must be a software problem not hardware. try to dl the new k3b from packman, make sure you are all up to date in terms of kernel and drivers as well as software then try again.

Keep us posted.

Ross.

glad you got it sorted, seems cds / dvds are getting worse. could you tell me what brand the cd was? (im starting to think Memorex only makes bad dvds...)
