Here are some "related" applications that I did not include in the DVD authoring stickie. This was either because they were full blown commercial applications (such as fusion and shake), or because I thought the stretch (as to their function) with dvd authoring was a bit too much:

eyespot: eyespot makes it easy to upload, organize and share video. To try it out, just create a free eyespot account. Use the upload page to transfer your video to your free personal eyespot page. Use the eyespot Mixer to edit and combine your videos, music and photos online! Share your video and mixes with the world for Free.

FreeJ: FreeJ is a digital instrument for video livesets, featuring realtime rendering of multilayered video and chained effect filtering directly on the screen (thru dynamically loadable plugins). FreeJ treats every video source as a layer, making then possible to dynamically apply on each a chain of filters, loadable as effect plugins and easily customizable. Layers are planned for rendering of analog video input, digital movie files (avi/mpeg), image bitmaps, sound scopes, texts and eventually more.

fusion: Fusion is a commercial package for studio's. It is advertised as a complete compositing package for any movie studio. Fusion feature (movies) are headlining the box-office charts every week, with use on well over 500 movie features to date surpassing a world-wide revenue of almost 50 billion dollars.

HJSplit: Freeware Linux file splitter with full graphical user-interface (screenshot) on Gnome and KDE. Not really a DVD authoring package, so I have not included it.

Shake: Shake is for advanced digita composing, and has been used for a number of commercial films. I saw this noted on a Linux site, but its not clear to me if there is a Linux version.

stop motion: You can create stop-motion animations with images grabbed from your favourite video device. You just sets stopmotion to use a grabber program which works with your device. It is also possible to do the same with video export; just plug in an encoder capable of doing video export from couple of images.

I updated the stickie:
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...howtopic=32956

with the following:

Aften is an audio encoder which generates compressed audio streams based on ATSC A/52 specification. This type of audio is also known as AC-3 or Dolby® Digital and is one of the audio codecs used in DVD-Video content.
Download Packman: http://packman.links2linux.de/package/aften
Home web page: http://aften.sourceforge.net/

divxenc
[Advanced shell script for encoding DVD's or video files to the DivX format using the encoding utility MEncoder from MPlayer. Supports all the useful options an end-user would need to make a successful encode. The script is a CLI front end to MEncoder.]

My thx to microchip for helping out here.
