Hi all,

I downloaded the openSUSE 11 rc1 gnome CD yesterday and gave a try on my new laptop. Every thing went fine, until I tried booting back into the Windows Vista which came default with my laptop.
Grub installation figured out about the 'windows' partition and the entry was there in menu.lst. but as soon as windows was selected, it said boot failure.
then I downloaded the RC1 DVD itself and gave one more trail. but same problem persists.
my laptop is a dell XPS model, which came with few unnecessary utilities and partitions. So I wiped out everything and created 2 primary partitions and an extended partition. One primary partition has windows and the other one is dedicated for openSUSE.

Interesting thing is windows repair is not working after this problem. its is simply not able get info about a installed windows. So I tried the UBUNTU installation, after wiping the SUSE partition. UBUNTU figured out Windows, and but then windows is again not booting. But at this point repair CD works. It is able to figure out the installed Windows, and it can repair.
I tried it twice... i.e installing opensuse twice. both the time its the same issue. So now my lappie is running on Ubuntu. But I really want to install Opensuse 11( and windows, as I use some windows only application)

any thots bros? Am I doing some thing wrong here?

okies... I could fix it now. just installed the GRUB into the primary partition instead of the MBR selected by default during the installation. now I have openSUSE11 as well as windows vista.

But I was just wondering, how ubuntu is able to do it? even when it installs the Grub into the MBR?
