1. I down loaded and burned a SUSE 10.3 version copy. Tried to install it on my 2nd HD over top of ver. SUSE 10.1. Install could not find my 2nd HD that had 10.1 already on it. I stripped the 10.1 off and tried to install 10.3 as a new install but the GRUB loader could not reconise the SUSE 10.3. I reinstalled SUSE 10.1 with no problem. What is my problem?
2. When I down load a application from the Internet, then go to install it I get a error that reads (something to do with Binary). How do I install a working application? 3. Why is my mouse and refresh rate so slow at times. I have a 1.3gHz AMD CPU, 1gHz of RAM, the hard drive is 80gb. 4. My Desk Top screen does not load the graphic background on boot up. I have to go in and select it manually. Is there a way to force the graphic background to load each time I boot up? |

1. Try booting with 10.3 dvd, that is insert the dvd, choose install, in installation method select other and then boot installed system. After booting the 10.3 go to yast2->system->boot loader. Make sure the entry for openSUSE 10.3 are listed there. If you need to reinstall grub click tab boot loader installation and make sure the'boot from master boot record' are selected. Apply the changes.
2. I need more information with this. What kind of file you are downloading? RPM or source or script? What the exact error message? 3. Probably the video driver is not working very well, what video card you have, nvidia or ati? Make sure to install driver provided by the vendor 4. Sure there is, hit alt+f2, type 'kdesu kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst'. When open search for your default kernel line and locate 'splash=verbose' parameter, change it to 'splash=silent', save the file. Oh yeah don't forget to make file backup first: Code:
sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst.backup |

To be honest, an upgrade from 10.1 to 10.3 is not considered a good idea. If it were me, I wouldn't even keep my /home. But start fresh.
