hi friends,

I have windows vista installed on my acer laptop. I downloaded open suse 10.3. I wrote ISO image in CD and tried installing it from CD. Now, the problem is suse didn't get installed because there was some problem with CD (it gave MD5 checksum error).... Now, when I rebooted my laptop. It showed me two options Windows Vista and LINUX SUSE.. Even if I select Vista or SUSE it starts installing SUSE (though cannot complete installation due to error in the CD)....

I tried windows repair option.. It said everything is proper.. Windows can boot properly.. And if still the problem persists then please remove any newly installed hardware like Music player, etc.. I am not able to figure out that if windows repair is not showing any error then why am I not able to run Windows vista...

I don't want to lose my data on C drive..

Can some one please help with it..

Thanks!!

Since the installation was unsuccessful, but reached a certain point, the system is looking to complete the installation. I recommend you re-download and restart the installation and once that is done-- we can help you get Vista booting if it is still not boot. it may just be a simple mbr correction.

as the install is only semi complete i would suggest as lxuser did. re-download suse, or reinstall windows as the repair didn't work. if no system is booting at all as far as i know you can't edit master boot record unfortunately.

is it possible you completely reinstall windows? that would be the easiest option i think. but of course editing grub menu.lst file should solve problems after finishing a good install of suse. the problem will not be k3b, it will be either disc, or the download. for best download quality try bit torrent. burn it as slow as possible to a dvd of good quality (i.e. not a cheap disc). it looks like suse has written to the mbr, but obviously not installed properly.

is it not possible to download the dvd? much much more software comes with it.
