Hi, I am new here to the forums and still fairly new to linux not likng Ubuntu very much i decided to try Suse 10,3. The problem i am having now, is I am unable to boot windows. I have so far been unable to properly configure GRUB. Windows vista is on its own hdd (/dev/sda1) my root partition for suse is /dev/sdb6. It either shows the code or Error 23. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

/boot/grub/device.map
(hd1) /dev/sda
(hd0) /dev/sdb

/boot/grub/menu.lst

which version of windows are you using? i'm guessing vista? as there weren't many problems with XP...
i'm assuming windows was installed first. take a look here, is quite a nice tutorial

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vista_wi...alled_first.htm

all you need is the bottom, since your partitions are already installed. posting your /etc/fstab might help some people too who know more about this than me.

in a console just type kdesu kate /etc/fstab

then post it here.

cheers.

if you mean you are reinstalling winxp over just vista and leaving linux then when you come to boot it will just boot up windows unfortunately (windows in their infinite wisdom make it more tricky than it need be to dual boot). to recover grub, as the 10.3 install disc repair doesn't work. look through this

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Howto_repair_bo...n_opensuse_10.3

note you will need super grub disc.

I know Windows will replace the bootloader in the MBR. It seems the easiest was to get Vista and Linux to boot together is to use bcdedit of Vista, which i care not for messing with at this point. I can get Suse and WinXP x64 working together nicely. Except now when i boot Suse it x just displays a soild screen with a mouse curosr, i think it has to do with the fbdev (frame buffer drivers it is using by defualt) I just dont know a console editor for suse (i am used to nano, which is not isntalled by default, and cat isnt letting me edit the file)
