Hi...

I've seen a few posts remotely related to this issue, but none adressed my problem. Afraid that I'm not alone in the world with it, here is my problem - and, for a change, a solution that worked for me.

THE PROBLEM

I was trying to upgrade from SuSE 10.0 to SuSE 10.1. Right after confirming that I really want to upgrade, I get the message to insert CD1, and the abovementioned error message in the details. This was strange, as I was trying to upgrade from a DVD, and of course the DVD was still in the drive.
  • Judging by the range of other posts, CPU etc. don't make a difference
  • I could pretty much rule out DVD errors - I had the retail box in my hands
(a safety check confirmed that the DVD was all right)
  • No additional complications like VMWare or some such.
None of the other suggested solutions appeared helped, short of re-burning the DVD (which I couldn't try for lack of a DVD writer :-).

THE SOLUTION

... was actually a lot easier than I had imagined:
  • while the alert box is still open, switch to a text console, e.g. by pressing the key combination "ALT-CTRL-F2"
  • mount the media manually, e.g. via
    Quote:
    mount /dev/hdd /mnt/mnt/dvd[/b]
(PLEASE read up on how to mount drives if you are not sure what this does! - It won't break things, but without adjustments for your specific system, it won't work, either)
  • switch back to the install screen (key combination: "ALT-F7")
  • enter the location of where the DVD was mounted in URL syntax in the error box (you may have to switch on the details for that), like
    Quote:
    file:///mnt/mnt/dvd[/b]
  • click the "OK" button" of the error box
This brought me over the hump. As I write this, the upgrade is still in process, I hope there won't be a need to provide an update in this thread :-)

A SPECULATION ABOUT THE CAUSE
from what I've seen, the issue could be related to complex mount structures, like several hard disks in the system (I'm running two ATA and several SCSI discs), but to be honest: I personally don't intend to try to reproduce the problem... I'm not sure the solution is reliable, how could I with just one sample.

Hope this helps,

I bought the installation package, but it refuses to install the catalog. Same message: " No Catalog found at 'dc:///?devices%3d%2fdev%2fhdc' I tried in de console to mount the CDROM but I don't understand this because I 'm running the installation from my CD. How can it be unmounted?
