Hi there all,

Well have been contemplating if i should buy the Hp pavillion 6700t or similar, but would like to know if anyone else out there has bought of these laptops and what the potential problems of running them under linux are?

Do the volume key and media keys work, as these are touch sensitive

Any feedback would help

thanks in advance

Not sure about HP but Leveno is offering thinkpads with SLED

A bit more expensive than the HP but it's SLED 10 = support

I have a HPdv9572EA, again everything works with 10.3 including webcam and wireless. Sound was a bear to configure but works fine. Oh, the only thing that doesn't work is the finger print scanner, looks as if it will be a while before we get a driver for this.

Ok now another thing. What in your opinions is better to get in terms of a processor AMD 64 X2 or intel core2 duo? Also is the AMD 64 X2 64bit dual core?

The multimedia keys are application dependent. Gnome multimedia apps appear to have better support. For example I run Totem and Goobox for media playback (under kde as my default DT).

Sound is easy if you add the openSUSE Audio Updates repo to Yast and install alsa-drivers-kmp-'your kernel'. Make sure the repo is for your kernel version.

The fingerprint reader is not supported as yet although oSUSE recognises the hardware.

I don't think the cpu matters as much as the GPU. I have had no problems with the nvidia setup here.

Webcam is fine with kopete, ekiga, or most apps that support v4l2.

Wifi is fine. Using it here with knetworkmanager.

Hope this helps...

You can set the multimedia keys in kde/amarok for example by going to Settings > Configure Shortcuts.

PS Use Settings>Configure Global Shortcuts - when minimised to the tray.

I have a dv2037

Everything works perfectly and it all works out of the box with OpenSuSE 10.3.
