I've spent the last couple hours trying to get Linux Suse 10 to install on a new Sony laptop, the kernel starts, then it says it can't find the CD-Rom it booted from and hangs.

I have a relatively new notebook VGNCR-120E with Vista which I don't like. It apparently loses the drivers once the kernel is started. Where can I get Linux drivers for:

- Pioneer DVR-K17 ATA device
- Hard Drive: Hitachi HTS 541616J95A00 ATA

I've tried to load Linux 10 from two different sources. One is from 2005, the other 2006, both install the same and stop at the same point.

Anyther curiosity, it says I'm trying to load a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit system. The notebook has an Intel Dual core 1.8 Ghz processor and it came with Vista which is a 32 bit OS. Would the fact that Linux is 32 bit be part of the problem? Should I look for the 64 bit version of Linux?

Thanks in advance!

try installing a more up-to date version. SuSE 10 is a bit old as 10.3 has been out for a good few months.unless you mean SLED, then you need the service pack.

Is there a preferred web site to get it? The product I got is from Novell, came in a box with 5 CD's or 1 DVD. I imagine there a lot of extra fluff in there. Is there one essential part I need or just what...? This Linux doesn't have exe or com files so it's kind of hard to tell what's an application and what's not.

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing I look under "Links" to the left here at the SUSE link and go there? Exactly what am I looking for? There are about 60 products at the Novell web site. I'm looking for the Operating System I think.

As I can't get the SUSE 10 to install, I can't apply a service pack to anything... I think I'm a little confused.
