I think it's a hardware problem? My dv6328us + 10.3 64-bit doesn't see my USB drive or memory stick.

hm, start a terminal then type
Code:
 su
and then
Code:
 tail -f /var/log/messages
while this is running plugin the device, it should produce some output there!

You may have found a fix for this old issue by now, but I recently bought a dv9700 and had the same problem. Turns out there is a conflict between the uvcvideo (webcam) kernel module and the usb-storage module. If uvcvideo is blacklisted in /etc/modules.d/blacklist then usb automount functions as it should (and the webcam will not work of course).

I also have a dv6500 but both drivers happily coexist. Obviously different systems. Strange.

Thought this may help ...

If anyone is interested there is an "r200" version of the uvcvideo-kmp driver available at the one-click install site that works with the latest 10.3 kernel, without borking usb. This means everything is now working on my dv9700 (well, apart from the fingerprint reader). Yippee!
