I've noticed that sometimes my laptop (Pavilion dv6325us) won't boot - it responds to esc, so it's not hung, but it just stops progressing through the boot. When this happens, the "fix" is to reboot with manually typing noapic in the boot options (this is known to be often needed for HP laptops). It is as if GRUB occasionally "forgets" that I have noapic set as a permanent boot option. This usually happens after an "unusual" reboot (although not a "bad" reboot). For instance, rebooting from the Session/Reboot option after End Current Session brings up the logon screen. I tried booting twice with a full power off - but when I manually entered noapic, it booted fine.
