Hi,
I just installed SuSE 10.2 on a Toshiba U300.. All seems to work, except for sound, and wireless. Sound is ICH7-- The driver loads fine, and appears to play, I just don't hear anything. Volumes are @ 100 and no mute. Wireless is an Atheros- I tried the MadWifi drivers but I get "The device didn't respond as expected" HAL status 3, and ndiswrapper reports that it couldn't start the Windows driver... Any suggestions? Also, is there a fix for the HD 'squeak' on shutdown as a result of the power management issue? Thanks! Lastly- Anyone know when the SuSE 10.3 final is due out? VintagePC. |

When I did a search for the Toshiba U300, I found this spec: http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.pht...notebooks.phtml which noted "Intel GM965 Express chipset with ICH8M" for sound. I don't see ICH8M supported by alsa: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php...ix:Vendor-Intel It could be challenging to get your sound working, if there is no driver. |

Actually, I don't have the pro, just the regular U300...
That page shows the pro with the ICH8M-- though I'll see what I can get... |

Okay, sound works now!! The solution was to rsync the alsa files, build all, and then set several options in Yast:
1. model=ref 2. position_fix = 1 --> These are available under the advanced setup Now for modem, Wlan and hotkeys, and I'm all set ![]() |

For the "record", can you be more explicit as to where in YaST you set those options? Also, for the record, could you post in this thread the contents of your new /etc/modprobe.d/sound file (or the file that has the ascii sequence "sound" in the file name)? Thanks! |

Those options are found when you first configure your sound card, choose 'Advanced setup with possibility to change options' after hitting 'edit'.
here's the /etc/modprobe.d/sound: -------------------------------------- options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=ref position_fix=1 # u1Nb.38og6MBANWF:82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel ----------------------------- Hope this helps! |

Okay... we have an update about this laptop with 10.3...
1. Sound: still need to use the latest rsync from alsa as previously described. 2. Wireless- Works with Ndiswrapper and the driver, net5211.inf-- however, you MUST blacklist ath_pci or you get the infamous 'Hardware did not respond as expected'. 3. Webcam: works out of the box. 4. Modem-- Toshba Softmodem that is detected by Alsaconf... but I don't know what to do with it. 5. Hotkeys-- no luck, as the 'toshiba' module does not support this model yet.\ Any suggestions appreciated. |

http://bulletproof.servebeer.com/als...s/alsa-info.sh Note - to run this script just open a konsole and type "bash alsa-info.sh". This is a script that wishie (a sound "guru" on IRC #alsa) wrote, to gather ALSA information from the machine its run on. When run, it will post the output on pastebin.ca automatically and give you the URL where its posted. Here is an example.. http://pastebin.ca/724516 Then if you post the URL here, our forum sound guru's can take a look at it. You could also try going to the IRC #alsa (from freenode) sound channel and see if you can get help there. |
