I am running Suse 10.2 + KDE 3.5 on a Dell Latitude 620D. When I type, the palms of my hands brush across the Alps touchpad , moving my cursor away from where I want it. I would like to disable the touchpad. Unchecking the "activate" button box in YaST does not seem to do anything. Does anyone know how to disable an Alps touchpad? Thanks!

deltaflyer,
Thank you for the response. I searched the forum forum before posting but only thought to look for "alps touchpad", so I really appreciate the link! I'll give it a try. I'm a novice but am confident that I can make the appropriate modification once I find the file. Can you tell me where to look? Thanks! |

In addition you can install ksynaptics and then configure it in "Personal Settings".
You should get an icon in taskbar that allows you to enable/disable the touchpad among other settings. |

the file you are after is in etc/X11/ to get there, open konqueror, then, pres the up arrow a few times until you see it. another way to edit the file:
1 ) open a console 2 ) type in su and press enter 3 ) type in root's password, you won't see anything as you type the password,it's a security feature, and press enter 4 )type in kate etc/X11/xorg.conf and press enter. the file should now open, ready for editing andy |
