I recently installed the suse 10 on my Ibm thinkpad t42. Everything works fine out of box. However, the monitor doesn't perform as well as i expected. The resolution is 1024*768 with color of 16.7 mio. 24 bit. The screen doesn't look as bright and clear as it looks on windows xp. And it responses slowly when switching between different windows.
Is it the way it is or I should upgrade the driver? the video card is ATI Radeon 7500.

Thanks,

I sympathise with andy on this. I am also a nvidia user, and there are many different tutorials. I've read some are better than others. Some worse. ... You can google this and get many hits. Pick the one you want to try. I'll post a few example urls here:

ati instructions:
http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/ati-installer-HOWTO.html

opensuse:
http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Driver_HOWTO

Here is one for suse-10.0
http://linux.wordpress.com/2005/10/11/suse...s-installation/

This is just the "tip" of the iceburg for instructions. Needless to say, this is not something a nvidia user will bother wading through. ... I recommend you try one of these (or others) on your own, and form your own opinion as to which is best.

the selection bettween rgb or gbr model is critical for LCDs.
Try to determine your LCD model and select the right option in your control center.
That will make your display much more clear!
