Struggling to support several pieces of the hardware on a new vaio sz1xp/c

Problem 1: graphics - nvidia gefore go 7400
have tried following the instructions with the new nvidia drivers but rebuilding the kernel fails and the graphics
card is not seen....

Problem 2: wlan - not seen, tried to install the ipw from intel, running the script it falls over

Has anyone got these components working in SUSE?

have the nvidia drivers been installed ? have a look in your xorg.conf, if the driver is installed it should look similar to mine, especially the device section, see attached. also try running glxinfo from a console, if it says direct rendering =no the drivers did not install & need to be reinstalled

Your WLAN card is probably a ipw3945, it seems to be the one used in all of the new "Centrino" laptops. AFAIK there is no driver for it in SuSE 10.0. You can either build it from source, or you can install SuSE 10.1 when it comes out (~May 11th), as the driver is included with the non-oss cd. ~Loki

Regarding the display problem, try to install the nvidia drive manually (downloading the driver from nvidia and running the scripts from terminal login). I had the same problem and Yast was no help. So, I tried manually and it worked. The newest driver from nvidia has support for the 7400.
