This is a two part question.

#1. Is there a way to disable the touchpad on my Sony Vaio PCG-Z1WA?

#2. Is there a way to disable the Caps Lock key?

Im running SuSE 10.0 on a Sony Vaio PCG-Z1WA. If you need any other info just reply.

Thanks,
Wavz

I guess you don't have any FN+key combo to disable it...

You can disable it while typing if you have synaptics installed. Go to YaST > Hardware > Mouse. Select the synaptics one and you'll see the option there.

If that's not enough for you, I believe that if you have another mouse configured another option appears at the top of YaST > Hardware > Mouse where you can tick to use the mouse or not.

There are 2 ways to config the input/output devices: editing Xserver configuration file or using SAX2 gui.

---------------------------
SAX2
----------------------------

You can access this program from Yast --> Hardware ---> Graphic card, or typing (as root) sax2 on a command line. Both methods will opened you configuration window.

On the right side frame there is a submenu with a list of devices. Each element of the list will change the main frame showing you the configuration options of each device.

Enter into the keyboard layout section and configure it properly: layout and language. There are some layouts for notebooks (Dell Inspiron or IBM, probably Vaio also).

After, enter into the mouse configuration tool and check that the touchpad is detected and enabled.

---------------------------
COMMAND LINE
----------------------------

Editing the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Better use it just for some final adjustments.

---------------------------------------
PACKAGES REQUIRED FOR TOUCHPAD
---------------------------------------

The touchpad required 2 packages:

- Synaptics Module => Driver for drivers
- KDE configuration too => Ksynaptics is Tool for configuring the touchpad (sensivity, etc.)

You can download from here:

Synaptics: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/packman.iu-bre...0.pm.1.i586.rpm
Ksynptics: ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/packman.iu-bre...0.pm.0.i586.rpm
