I have a dell e1705 and have managed to get both Suse 10.0 and 10.1 running pretty well on it. I had issues with the sound, but upgrading to the ALSA developmental releases fixed that....except one problem. When I plug my headphones in it doesn't mute the speakers. I have seen posts refering to a "headphone sense" option in kmix, but I seem to be lacking that. Any ideas? I had to boot into windows to watch a movie last night :-(

BTW: this is a SigmaTel STAC9200 chipset

I also have a e1705 and have the same issue. Don't you just love useless complexity in hardware?

I haven't found a solution yet, but if I find one I'll make sure to post back here.

Later,

My KMix offers the switches "Line Jack Sense" and "Headphone Jack Sense" to determine the behaviour of the laptop's speaker while plugging in headphones into the laptop and/or the docking station.

It works for me since I switched on these KMix-Senses, but note that I also had to switch on "External Amplifier" in order to obtain any effects from KMix at all. I have no idea what this "External Amplifier" switch really does, and did not find satisfying information since...
