Hi all

Have installed the nvidia linux drivers and now it will not allow me to do 1024x768, but that resolution is selected in sax. When you tell it to test the configuration you have selected, it jumps down to 800x600 and has a black border on the right hand side. Any one know how to get round this issue to get 1024x768 with nvidia drivers loaded.

1024x768 works fine without the nvidia drivers loaded.

The card is a nvidia geforce4 420 go 32MB

Check how is your monitor configured when you load nvidia drivers.
If you can't see a nice set up, select a VESA mode with your maximum resolution.

my monitor is configured for 1024x 768 when i load the nvidia drivers but it still goes to 800x600 and has a border on the right side. The driver version i am using is 7664. Don't know if that has anything to do with the problem?

Well, you could try to update the nVidia drivers because they are kind of outdated.
Besides try also changing your monitor to a vesa model at 1024x768, or check how are its frequencies set and if they match those from manual.

Ok after a bit of research, i found in the xorg.log this

(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1024x768" (width 1024 is larger than
(WW) NVIDIA(0): EDID-specified maximum 969)

So now is there any way that i can change the maximum edid to 1024? Then i think that i will get 1024x768.

Is your monitor autoconfigured by Sax2?
I guess so 'cause EDID info should come from it.
If this is the case, there must be a misconfiguration. Try changing your monitor for a VESA one for 1024x768 and enter your monitor values for hor. and vert. sync.

It should be on your monitor manual. And THIS is very important.
If you set a VESA one that works nice, then you can leave it.
But if you can check your monitor specs somehow, with manual or going to the manufacturer website, all the way better.

my manual does not specify the horizontal and vertical but only has resolution and frequency. But the monitor works fine with a vesa set to 1024x768@60hz wihout the nvidia driver loaded.
