I'm running SuSE 10.0 on Dell Latitude C840 with a dock. The computer itself has an onboard sound card, Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller, which is basically an i810 sound card. The sound quality provided by the speakers on the laptop is somewhere close to "tin can" on the range of fidelity, so I added a Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2 to the dock along with some speakers. My hope is that while the computer is docked, it uses the Aureal and while it isn't, it uses the Intel. I once tried configuring the Aureal as snd-card-0 and the Intel as snd-card-1, but once I took the computer off the dock, I had all sorts of sound trouble.

Is there any way to easily switch between sound cards as output?
