did anybody install SuSE Linux on that machine? my friend bought it recently and I advised her to move to linux. but always main querstion is hardware, I looked at vendors cite, but still have a lot questins, first of all, http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping...=true&tab=specs
here is nothing said about audio controller, and HP loudly recommends Win XP, but there is not half word about linux. So I need your advises, will all hardware work propertly under Linux? So if somebody have any experience, please give me advises. |

I have just installed SUSE 10 on a HP dv8135 laptop, I was able to make evrything (X, wireless, wired, bluetooth, DVD writer, touchpad etc) work except the 6in1 multimedia card reader.
I do not know specifically about dv5000 though.... Download a couple of LiveCDs from the best hardware detection distros (kanotix, PCLinuxOS, MEPIS) pop it in the CD-drive and you shall see your questions answered and you do not have to install anything ...BTW SUSE also has a LiveDVD, but it is not that good (in my case my hardware was not all recognised, but when I installed SUSE it worked out of the box) |
