I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that will sometimes freeze while running SuSE 10. I've noted that this seems to occur more frequently if I have the wirelss adaptor enabled and am using it. (As opposed to having it enabled and using the regular ethernet port.) Also when the laptop hangs the caps and scroll lock indicators flash. I have to do a hard reboot to resume my session. Also, this occurs after a random amount of time. Sometimes it will be ok for an entire day without hanging. Sometimes it hangs every couple hours or so.

The only possible hint I see in the syslog is this boot-up message:

Code:
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ieee80211_crypt: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ieee80211: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, 1.0.3
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation <jketreno@linux.intel.com>
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ipw2200: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.6
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 55498 usecs
Mar 23 12:51:57 sapient kernel: intel8x0: clocking to 48000
(I'm guessing it wedged before it had a chance to whine to the syslog.)

Anyone have any similar predicament? Any hints? Clues? Things to check for?

Have you tried to update your ipw2200 drivers? <_<

Have you had any success with this? I'm experiencing the same problem with my computer

I have been suspecting the wireless card or my ATI video card.

Those complaints in your boot log are completely normal, all they mean is that you're using a non open-source driver, or a driver that requires binary firmware. If you have more than one stick of RAM in there, try taking one of them out, and running on just one or the other. Hard lockups like that with no log complaints immediately make me think 'bad RAM'. This is not always the case, but it's definitely a possibility you should look into before doing much else. ~Loki
