What's your ALSA version? It seems it needs ALSA drivers >= 1.0.10_rc1 to work.

Here is a case of a Debian Sarge user who managed to get the sound working, although he had to rebuild his alsa module: http://jeriko.l-tech.org/2006/03/03/debian...e-on-asus-a6va/

Here is a link to a gentoo user's experience, and he gives some good alternatives to get this working:

The suggestion of Jop for you to update your alsa reads like a good idea to me.

Download the latest "rpm" for alsa from Packman.
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=217
Be certain to get the rpm that is specific to your PC/SuSE version. If you are using KDE, you can install via Konqueror/YaST.

Do you understand the difference between an rpm and a tarball?

thanks for your awnser, i think the diferent bettween the rpm and a tarball is that the tarball its the sources files , correct me if im wrong

ok alredy have installed the update now the version is the 1.0.10, but still getting the same error when i do a alsamixer, and still nothing when i do the sound test in yast.

now im remember a thing i think the 1st time ive installed suse i had sound and lost it when ive installed the ati drivers, but the secound time i never got sound and ive trie it before installing the ati drivers

and i dont know if this is important, but ive read from a member that hasnt able to get sound and in kmix he have dissable something in the switches, but my KMix olny have the output tab, from some picures ive seen the KMix have an output, input and a switches tab, and mine only have the output tab

There is no point in trying sound under KDE if it doesn't work under YaST. Get the test function working under YaST first, and only then try to get it running under KDE.

Please:
a. confirm sound is enabled in your BIOS,
b. in a konsole type "su" to get root permissions. Then navigate to /etc/modprobe.d and rename any files with "sound" in the file name, to some backup file name.

Then try YaST > HaRDWARE > SOUND and setup your sound card one more time. Be certain to move the slider bars far to the right. Try the test function in YaST again. Any luck this time?
