Thumbs up

So, installed Suse 10 on my Compaq Presario R3000 (still haven't got the wireless working ><) and the volume adjust and mute buttons on the side don't work. What's more, KMix doesn't actually adjust my volume but the volume control in Kaffeine Player works just fine.

I did some looking but it seemed quite complicated and I couldn't make head to tail of it. I'd like to be able to adjust my volume without having to use the over-sensitive touchpad (I turned down the sensitivity as low as it would go).

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi!
this can be of help:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB%3AUsing_the_Ext...on_the_Keyboard

see also,
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/lofivers...php/t14916.html

In my laptop (HP compaq Nx6125) I added the following lines to the file .Xmopmap :

keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume

(There must be a .Xmodmap in your home directory $HOME/.Xmopmap).
After I added these lines to .Xmodmap, KDE automatically reconized the volume buttons. The specific keycodes can be different for your computer. You have to find them with the program xev (run it from a terminal). I remember that in Gnome is even easier to adjust the volume buttons, there is a menu in the system configuration, you can also check that.
Regards,
Alexander.

For the wireless problem I solved the probleme by using ndiswrapper and the windows driver (I have the same compturer)
For the sound it seems that the card is not fully reconized by the system because the audio output doesn't work (it is under windows Xp)
Please reply if you find anything else to configure this computer because I also have trouble with graphic card and the 3D, the modem...
