Hi guys,
After purchasing this laptop recently I thought I'd try joining the linux community and installed the Suse 10.0 64 bit. Surprisingly most thing work just fine and I've noticed I'm booting the machine to windows very seldom. Even the wlan works fine with ndiswrapper. The question I have is that what FPS should I expect getting from glxgears? Following the instructions on the ati website the driver installs just fine and delivers approx 820 FPS after installation. This doesn't sound like mutch tho. I'm concerned because it takes ages for openoffice to load and the OOo website recons its probably a video driver issue. So I have no idea whether my driver is properly installed or not. fglrxinfo suggests everything is fine: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON XPRESS 200M Series SW TCL Generic OpenGL version string: 2.0.5695 (8.23.7) The laptop has Turion MT34 processor and 512 MB of RAM. I would really apreciate if anyone could comment on this one. Regards, Steve6 |

Hi, in my laptop HPnx6125, Turion ML30/512MB RAM with SUSE10 64bits and the ATI drivers installed I have ~ 1050FPS. I would expect a similar behavior in your laptop. Ooo in my laptop takes ~35 seconds to load. Well, this is all I can say (that it is not much). From your fglrinfo your driver seems to be properly installed. Regards, Alexander PS. These laptops have problems with acpi, see: http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...howtopic=21123 |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I guess my computer is behaving normally then. Although I can't understand why mine delivers less fps while having a bit more powerful processor, but it could be down to various settings and programs running in the background as the difference isn't that big. But still I can't understand why it takes 1.5-2 minutes to start openoffice, this is the only issue stopping me from abandoning windows completely SuSE 10.1 will be out soon, I hope it will do a bit better regarding these issues. And maybe I should upgrade my RAM as lots of people have advised me that 512 MB really isn't enough to run 64bit OS. Steve6 |

Hi Francesco, I don't have such problem. After crtl-alt-F1 or crtl-alt-F2, etc I can switch back to the open X-windows using (crtl-alt-F7). I have installed SUSE 10.0 32 bits and SUSE 10.0 64 bits. I also checked the behavior of the ATI drivers and the Mesa drivers. Best Regards, Alexander |

Right, the time has come. I'm going to upgrade my RAM to a gig. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of modules should I be looking for? Unfortunately I don't know very much about hardware myself.
I've managed to find out that I should go for 1GB 200pin PC2700 memory, but then some sites sugest that NX6125 is also compatible with PC3200 memory... Regards, Steve6 |
