I have an IBM Thinkpad T40 and it uses an ATI Mobility 7500 radeon card (blah I know) when I installed Cedega and ran the tests I was told I didn't have 3d acceleration (saw the gears and the box is checked) or opengl direct rendering, and 3d acceleration...

I found this odd....but whatever do I have to download and install the ATI laptop driver or somewhere else?

you are probably using the mesa driver which is software rendering. download ati drivers for your card from here

Do I maybe need to edit something so that I can get 3d accel on even though sax2 says it is on?

Or is it maybe just cedega reporting it not on even though it really is? (glxgears runs....at a lowish frame rate but it does run)

to see if you are running 3d, type glxinfo in a console. if anything in the report has mesa, then you are using software rendering. if you are using the ati drivers & no 3d is showing, you probably need to re-install them. also glx gears should show framerate near the thousand mark or more

My glxgear is like 2500-3000

I guess back to figuring out where to get the drivers for my oldish card (its a7500 and the drivers on ATI's site say for like 8000 and higher

Here is info from my xorg

Section "Device"
BoardName "Radeon LW"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "radeon"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
Option "Rotate" "off"
VendorName "ATI"
EndSection

As far as I can tell that is what is should look like? I could be horribly mistaken....if it isn't what should it look like?

yoor xorg is fine, looks like a problem with cedega then,as yor framerate is in the right region. as i haven't used cedega, i think i will bow out & see if someone can help with it. did you check for mesa with glxinfo in a console ?as it could also be a reinstall of drivers needed

Not much help, but I am having the same problems.

Opensuse, Radeon Mobility 9700, ATi drivers. 3D seems to work on all linuxnative games but Cedega reports the video card as using MESA drivers. I logged a support call with transgaming but they said I had configured the graphics card wrong. Anyone else got any clues?!
