SuSE 9.3 Pro on my SONY Vaio PCG F540K laptop does NOT recognize/install my USB mouse or WLAN card -
- KYE Genius NetScroll USB Mouse - works in K/UBUNTU ; MEPIS 3.3 and WinXP-SP/2 (Multiboot) - DLink DWL 650 PCMCIA WLan card - works in WinXP-SP/2 only - The KWeather applet is also non-functional - works in K/UBUNTU and MEPIS 3.3 I tried post-install using YAST and SaX2 - all to no avail . . . . . . Any ideas? Thanks, in advance! |

Have you tried ndiswraper to get the wireless card working?

By the way, I have managed to 'force' Sax2 to recognize the USB mouse, but controlling it's another matter ....it's still largely unuseable. |

There's quite a few posts on here on ndis - do a forum search for "ndiswrapper" and you'll find a wealth of info on it

A lot of people here aren't software developers either. Some just take the 1-2 hours on a weekend to try and work out an issue or 2. I don't see how Novell/Suse didn't deliver since it is the hardware manufacturer that creates the drivers for your hardware and for which OS, especially since you even stated it only worked in XP. You don't like it, don't buy their hardware. Lastly, I don't see why 9.3 won't do the exact same things 9.2 can do, that just doesn't make sense to me.

I recently replaced 9.2 with 9.3 and after two weeks have yet to get everything working that worked perfectly on 9.2, namely icons staying in place on your desktop after restarting, not to mention a hlf dozen or so other gremlins:-) |

Took another crack at SuSE 9.3 on the aforementioned laptop, this time, configuring the KYE Genius NetScroll USB mouse as an Explorer PS/2 Mouse on USB - lo and behold - it works just fine. Now, if I could only get the wireless thing figured out . . . . . . . Thanks all and Cheers, |

How did you get your icons to stay in place on your desktop after restarting? This has been a minor annoyance of mine with 9.3 which otherwise I have been extremely happy with. Thanks, Mike55 |

I didn't. I thought they had but out of the blue on a restart or shutdown they pile up again. I can't see any pattern as to wehn they stay in place or what makes KDE stack them again. Sorry |
