I found your post and had a bit trouble with the SuSE list archive link you left. The actual link is: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-xfree86...5-Feb/0010.html I followed the email and README file from the FTP site and was able to get X working using the i810 driver instead of the VESA Framebuffer. The only problem I had with getting X configured after I installed the updated Xorg 6.8.2 packages was Sax2. Sax kept updating the /etc/X11/XF86Config file and the Xserver was looking at /etc/X11/xorg.conf for its configuration. It took me awhile to figure out why everything looked good when I tested the display from Sax2 but I wasn't getting anything but the FrameBuffer configuration when I set the system runlevel to 5. I created a symlink to XF86Config name xorg.conf and I was happy to finally getting a resolution greater than 600x800. I can now drive my display at a full native 1280X800 with a 24 bit color depth. The hard part will be keeping the kernel modules up to date if the kernel is updated under SuSE 9.2. I will have to check what version of X SuSE 9.3 ships with as that may be the ultimate solution of 9.2 ships with Xorg 6.8.2 or better packages. |

Hi,
I was facing the same problem with my Toshiba laptop with Intel 915GM chipse graphics card. Finally I installed SuSE Linux 10 last night and it detected the card automatically. Without doing any thing I got the 1280 x 768 resolution in 24-bit colours. I haven't tried 3D yet, so I cannot confirm that part. Hope this helps. Cheers, Sandeep. |
