How can I close the lid without my screen being frozen when I open it back up? I have it set to dell laptop display (it's an inspiron 5000), I dunno what else it could be. Now for my other issues, which all involve sound. I have an ESS Maestro 2E card and the following things have happened. When I try to configure my soundcard the screen freezes, When I try to play a cd on my external cd writer it plays but there's no sound. Then I play a CD through my dvd drive it plays with sound but the screen freezes. And I dunno if it's a gaim problem or not, but I can't get gaim sounds to play either. I can play the wav files from the files, but the alerts don't work when gaim is running, and even when I try and test them the sound doesn't work. I'm running 9.2 pro by the way. Thanks in advance.

How do I do that? I've never run across a problem like this so I don't even know where to start.

Look in the BIOS set up, and probably in power management to see if you can disable or modify what happens when you close the lid. I'm sure I did that to my Acer work laptop, so I could shut the lid and leave the thing running.

I have the power management turned off, and it still happens. As to the BIOS I haven't touched it. What can I do about the sound issues?
