Hi

I just installed SuSE 9.2 on my TP600 with a minimal graphical install and I have no sound. I previously had SuSE 9.1 home on and got the sound working.

I have probed for isa and old sound cards and had no luck

I know it can be done! help

Thanks

options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0666 snd_device_gid=0 snd_device_uid=0
alias sound snd-card-cs4236
options snd-card-cs4236 snd_port=0x530 snd_cport=0x538 snd_mpu_port=-1 snd_fm_port=0x388 snd_irq=5 snd_dma1=1 snd_dma2=0

If you ever get an explination on how to get the sound working pass it along. Ive been using 9.1 for about 6 months now and still dont have the sound working on my TP600e. And I havent really found a good explaination that wasnt over my head (Linux newbie), but I'm always willing to learn something new. By the way, do you remember how you got your sound working in 9.1 ?

Thanks,
Wavz

I have just realised that the last time I had sound working on my TP600 was not with SuSE 9.2 but with 9.1 - with wich I think it auto configured it for me. Im not sure why 9.2 has stopped working but it might be worh you trying 9.1 instead after all the packages are not too different.

Oh I see from another post that you've sorted it for your TP600e.

...still, not sure why I still cant get my 600 working when it did on 9.1

Horay!! I have fixed it

All you have to do is go into the BIOS (Hold F1) before posting then click "initialise" under one of the menu options.

Now "alsaconf" will find the card (if you probe for old ISA ones)

Hope this helps someone else some time
