Irda On Acer Travelmate 800 W/ Suse Linux 9.2

Hey folks,
i tried to get the infrared-port on my acer travelmate 800 working with suse linux 9.2, but experienced trouble...
in yast i tried configuring the port where linux should look for the irda-port, without success. when i set the port to /dev/ttyS1 then i get a test-output, but no devices are recognized, neither my mobile phone nor my pda...
/dev/ttyS0 seems to be the serial port on the docking station (which i do not own).
does anyone own a travelmate 800 with a working irda-port? (btw on windows everything works out ok, so it obviously isn't a hardware issue...)
any help would be appreciated!
