upgraded 9.1 to suse 9.2

Suse chose for my ati mobilty radeon 9650 the rv350 np driver.
This driver does not allow 3d opengl rendering.

I red in another posting I could try other drivers delivered with suse.
I took for example the ati mobilty 9200 (igp 7835) which works well for 2d and I can set the 3d acceleration option.
Problem is after I set the option, sax2 tells me settings will be applied after restarting the graphical engine. after a reboot the 3d option is back off.
Even when I just have set the 3d option, save settings, don't restart go back in the sax2 the 3d setting is back off.
It seems that sax2 doesn't save it when I set the 3d option.

Also, Is there a way I could use the xfree drivers from ati under suse? suse has x.org I suppose.

9.2 uses xorg not xfree. ATI has not created any drivers for xorg yet so as of now you will have to wait.

petition towards ati:

Sign it!

To: ATI Technologies Inc.
We are the customers of ATI who use Linux to power our computers. We will no longer endure ATI’s poor driver support for Linux both in 32-bit and 64-bit computing. This petition is aimed at the designers at ATI who for whatever reason choose not to acknowledge our pleas and specifically at ATI as a company. The signers of this petition will no longer purchase ATI products until ATI make a workable 3D accelerated 64-bit driver for Linux and a 32-bit that utilizes the full potential of the Raedon chips.

Actually ATi support for Linux is going forward rather well, with the next bi-monthly update coming in August.

Tons of fixes as well as a completely new installer should be coming this time.
