Dear all

I have DESPERATE PROBLEM

The screen of my laptop Compaq Armada E 500 an LCD has decided to given me a horror show. On boot sequence it shows a much reduced screen 1/4th the normal size with tiny fonts bang in the centre of the screen. The on the GUI logon onwards the visible area is only the top 1/4th.

I have tried booting up using a knoppix live cd with the same results.

The machine is a PIII originally preloaded with win2k then XP, in June I installed FC1 and then in Spetember FC2 and in OCtober Suse 91. pro.

Under windows too I remember some similar problem when my entire screen got reset and was reduced and this got rectified when I installed win xp

The Suse logon had an opening message saying the the x and y of your monitor has not been set do you want to do it manually, and whatever I tried I could not do it. (rectify it that is)

Could this be some harware preset something or could I have blown my screen apart.

I can access the CLI but enabling failsafe boot. But am not a cli person so don't really know what to look for, is ther some file etc that would give some info about the conditions.

Thanks

Sounds similar to the problem I had with my Compaq Armada 7400. Using Sax2 there is a Compaq LCD 1024 Color picking this gets rid of the message and seems to work fine. The max resolution of my screen is 1024x768, hopefully the E500 is the same.
