I have an old Compaq Armada 7400 with SuSE 9.1 personal installed. Everything runs perfectly but everytime I reboot it asks me for the screen size and type. Currently I have told it that its a generic LCD but its still not happy. I know that both Toshiba and Samsung made screens for this laptop but that doesn't really help me. Any thoughts?

Have you installed any graphics drivers? Try setting the monitor up through Sax2.

The drivers for the S3Virge graphics are autodetected by SuSE fine, using sax2 doesn't list the monitor as such or at least not in a fashion that I can recognse.

I would get this problem in Suse once in a while, the solution oddly enough is to just configure it once then after that just cancel out when it asks you upon start-up. After you ignore it once or twice it just accepts your settings and goes away.

Okay I have now given it a 'generic' Compaq 1024 color (please spell it properly next time its 'colour'!!) and it appears to be working fine.

That's an issue of the 9.1 version - don't ask me why but for some models it just does that. Selecting a generic monitor normally solves that problem. I think an online update also fixes the problem

Actually "color" is a proper spelling. "Color" is US, "colour" is British. Guess it depends on where you live...

I agree with Vir@s here. I had that problem big tim in 9.1. After I did an online update it will go away.
