I recently purchased a SP2208wfp webcam, for use with an AMD 2.0 Gig Hz desktop, under SuSE 10.3.
The command lsusb issued on terminal logged in as SU reveals the SP2208WFP is product of OmniVision Technologies, Inc. This is also found with a hardware probe. Searching the web for linux drivers for OmniVision reveals it is supported by video4linux 2, as a part of efforts by www.linux-uvc.berlios.de. A search using yast --> software management reveals a number of programs that utilize a video4linux compatable product, however, no drivers. www.linux-uvc.berlios.de has a repository at: svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/linux-uvc/ The repository contains a number of folders containing "c" programs, makefiles, and NO rpm files. Without any rpm files, it seems pointless to add berlios to my repository database. Any suggestions on how to get this device to work? The device came with windows drivers. Can I use ndiswrapper? Thank you in advance for any assistance. |

If it is supported by the uvc, then simply go here: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Web_Cameras and scroll down to the "If your webcam still doesn't work" section, and read what it has to say. Note it is written for 10.2, but with a small amount of checking, you can determine the repos to add for 10.3 is: Code:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/drivers:/webcam/openSUSE_10.3/ Note those rpms are built for the 2.6.22.17 kernel, so prior to installing that repos, you should IMHO ensure you have a 2.6.22.17 kernel (ie. have updated from the 2.6.22.5 kernel). You can check your kernel with "uname -a". Quote:

I have a logitech 5000 which requires uvcvideo. Starting with 10.3 it is supported in Yast.
The version I use is: uvcvideo-kmp-default r117_2.6.22.17_0.1 1.1 I notice that packman now has an rpm for ucview you can use to test your webcam. Have not tried it yet, still using the old version. http://packman.links2linux.org/package/ucview Also found it works in kdetv and possibly kopete. |

... and if I interpret your post correctly, for the Packman ucview to work properly with a web cam, one typically also needs the uvcvideo driver (such as the uvcvideo-kmp-default). |
