Hi!

I managed to install the drivers for my fathers GeForce 4 MX via YAST from the http-server "download.nvidia.com" in no-time, however, now I want to intsall the nVidia drivers for my own GPU, which would be the GeForce 7900 GS. I'm quite sure that I need the "x11-video-nvidiaG01" package, but looking for it via google or at packman showed no results...

Is there a way I can get the needed package, copy it over to my own PC and run it via YAST?

Thanks in advance,

K.K

Yeah, I've allready read that - problem is, they all work only with an active internet connection. I installed the driver for a GeForce 4 MX this way on a computer with an internet connection, with YAST and the package manager - but my problem is:

Now how to get the .rpm I need to install the driver for a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS, in order to copy it over to my own system and install it there without an internet connection there?

When I do what is mentioned in the faq, I can only install the driver, and not download the .rpm for later offline use - at least as far as I know....?

Thanks,

K.K

The best way to do this is download the driver from nvidia here save it to a memory stick or other portable device then do a manual install:

1. Make sure you have the 'kernel-source', 'make' and 'gcc' packages they are on the dvd so you can add them with YaST.

2. Copy the driver to your desktop on you pc with no connection

3.Press ctrl+alt+backspace to get to console and log in as root
Type cd /home/yourusernane/Desktop note the capital D in Desktop
Then sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.05.run
Answer yes to all the questions

4. When the driver has finished installing type exit

5. Log in as normal user then type startx

@ MB sax2 -m -r 0=nvidia is no longer needed as the driver does it for you if you answer yes to the last question
see step 3 here
