Hi!
my webcam turns on at startup. I can't figure how to turn it off,
that is, if I configure it through aMsn, it turns off... so I need a code
and how to implement it at startup that would be similar to what aMsn does.
I suppose it just starts the driver? and turns it then off again?
this should be fairly simple, but i'm a linux noob.

My webcam is a creative pro ex, and I have opensuse 10.3 installed.

thanks for any help.

Tarun.

check in yast sysconfig editor in modules loaded at boot and see if you can find it there. if so, delete the entry for it. hope this helps.

whether this will stop it loading at all i'm not 100% sure as i rarely use my webcam, but it should work. if not then add the entry back in modules loaded at boot (if it's there to start with)

I don't know what you'd do if your computer is a laptop, but if it's a desktop with an external web cam, you could get one of those silk bags with a drawstring that they use to store expensive billiard balls, and put it in that.

Or perhaps an adjustable hat

still, don't want to keep plugging it in and out all the time if it is a desktop do you...

did not find it in sysconfig editor.

What i did, was to add a executable file to /home/usern*/.kde/Autostart,
with the code to start the webcam with mplayer at startup:

"mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l:device=/dev/video0"

then, i just end mplayer, and the cam goes off.
So what i'm doing, is just starting the driver, and shutting it off, through another program.
It's not what I was looking for, but it doesn't take much time.
