From this I'm assuming you have a pci card modem installed. Support and drivers will very much depend on whether this is a winmodem (softmodem) and the chipset employed. Analog modems are not used by many anymore, so help will be limited. Many would suggest you opt for an external serial modem instead. However, some steps for you to try:

1) To start with open a console, and type '/sbin/lspci'. This may list some useful info.

2) Download and install the scanModem utility from here. This tool can help you to identify any likely drivers available.

Also check what chip set you have. If it's a soft modem chances are that it's a Conexant chip set. It is possible to get soft modems working I've done it but you will need to purchase/download a proprietary driver, from here for example,

http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/

You will also need a couple of little scripts to start and stop your modem or to configure it for dial on demand. This type of thing is not easy for raw beginners, so you might like to take the other advice and buy a pci modem, one that you know openSUSE will identify and configure.

Any luck yet? Do you still want to get your Winmodem going? Maybe take a look here first,
