Canon sell an All-in-1 scanner / printer known as the PIXMA MP250 - see
http://www.canon.com.au/products/all_in_on...20_support.aspx They even provide Linux drivers at (long URL)
http://support-au.canon.com.au/EN/search?v...3d%3dLinux&
The download area contains interminable licence text which makes it crystal clear they provide absolutely no support, but it has absolutely no information describing what these RPM files actually do, what their prerequisites are, etc., etc. It's nice that they support Linux, but the relevant part of the Canon website is a model of obscurity.
Downloading the RPM files and inspecting them doesn't help much.
At a guess, I think I need the ScanGear MP "common package" and "package for MP520 series" to support the scanner, and the IJ Printer Driver "common package" and "package for MP520 series" to support the printer (under CUPS).
But the scanner RPMs contain a whole lot of libsane files, which suggests they might already be included in the SANE backend software. The SANE list of supported devices says MP520 support is "good", but that webpage says it was last updated in October 2003. The latest edition of the SANE backend software was apparently on 10th February - see
http://www.sane-project.org/
My guess is that this version of SANE probably includes the latest Canon MP520 scanner software, but I'll have to install both the IJ Printer Driver common and MP520-specific packages for the printer. Presumably the printer driver will happily coexist with HPLIP.
Does anyone have any insights into this? I'll be grateful for any clues.
