Was trying to show a friend how easy it is to download her HP PhotoSmart C200 digital images through DigiKam on SuSE 10 and guess what? Yep, you're right; another enigma. I was able to choose the HP PhotoSmart C200 selection in the DigiKam list of available cameras, but then it said "not connected". Of course, I ran my fingers over every millimeter of the serial cable, checked the port connections to the computer and camera, made sure the camera was on and it recognized the computer. Has anyone had a similar experience and have any suggestions?

Try another cable, or try your cable between a known good computer/camera combination. Or have your friend bring her cable over and try that. My wife's hp won't accept my camera's cable.

Thanks for this suggestion. From what little variety I've seen in the digital cameras and connecting to computers, one must use the manufacturer's cable. Her cable works OK when connected to her MS Win XP system computer but, as reported in my first posting, I could not get SuSE 10 or KDE to acknowledge there was a camera connected. Also the DigiKam program wasn't able to 'AutoDetect'. It was in the Selection List of available choices of cameras, so I manually chose it, but this made no differance: camera still not detected.

Another thought: when I first installed suse 10 none of the photo aps would recognize my ultra cheap ($20) poc camera. I just thought it was the camera, although it was listed. When I upgraded to kde3.5.1, digicam was upgraded to 0.8.1. Now the everything works fine! Maybe upgrading digicam (and related back end stuff) would solve your problem?

Yes, Bozo, this is a good suggestion, one which had 'flitted' through my consternation; I will try this once I can travel back to my friend's location. Came down with a different strain of this season's collection of cold/flu germs and have been 'laid low' for about a week. But I will definitely try your KDE/Digikam upgrade idea.
