No Sound On Dell Dimension 4300

I have just deleted MS-XP from Dell Dimension 4300 which Yast tells me has 82801BA/BAM AC97 Audio. Looking on Suse's site it appears to me that this device is compatible with Suse 9.2 Pro. I have followed instructions exactly and tried different settings - with out any luck - the Dell remains silent. Before removing XP, the sound worked.

Please can anyone point me the right direction? I am still very new to Linux, but have at least now managed to wean myself of all traces of Windows 98 and XP-Pro.

Hi,

AC97 audio works fine on my box. You have to play with the sliders in the ALSA
mixer. It's under the multimedia icon somewhere. (sorry I do not have a linux box here.....)
