in windows when i standby my pc ,the whole system shutsdown and waits for mouse or keyboard signal and as soon as it gets it the loginprompt for windows is up!
has suse standby this ability?when I click standby button nothing happens!
what do i need to make it work properly?

right click on plug/battery icon on taskbar>configure kpowersave>general (i think, something like that)>button events> look for standby button and choose what you want it to do when you press it,

should work.

I think both standby and "suspend to ram" can be problematic in Linux still, especially on a desktop. My understanding is that it will take work to get either working

Never had any problems here with suspend to disk ~=standby in windoze
