Unhappy

I've been googling around trying to figure out how to use JPilot to sync my palm. My other os (vista) isn't supported (how stupid is that???) - so I'm thinking "SuSE" - has anyone been able to do this? I installed JPilot and a couple others from YaST repos and get as far as telling the software to sync - it replies "hit the hot sync button your palm now" and I do that but after a long time, the palm says the connection could not be established..." It's just a USB connection so there shouldn't be driver problems... Any experience would be appreciated!

Thanks!!
Patti

Edit: I found that a character device appears in /dev/bus/usb/001 whenever I connect my z22 to a USB port. It can't be mounted being a character device. I tried pilot-xfer as well as JPilot and they all seem to talk about a "port" named /dev/pilot. Is this something I have to create myself, analogously to mount-ing a block device to an existing directory? (I tried entering /dev/bus/usb/001/XXX as the port - but that doesn't seem to work.)

EDIT2: YAY! I found that KPilot autodetects the port - /dev/ttyUSB1 It seems to be backing up and syncing well with KDE-PIM...
Wow - do my eyes deceive me?  It even seemed to update the latest news headlines (to my palm) from the internet!

The same /dev/ttyUSB1/ has always worked for me with Evolution, as well, using my Sony PDA, until this last release of SUSE 10.2. Now, when I attempt to sync, instead of the data appearing on the PDA or in Evolution, whichever way I attempt to sync, all I get are some gray bars. I don't know what went wrong this time, but it worked great before. If you use Evolution email, you might give that a try, as well.

Cheers,

Thanks - my little z22 only carries an address book and appointments - no email sync, etc. I just wanted to be able to back it up. Someone turned right in front of me on my scooter (luckily I wear real motorcycle armor when I ride my little scooter) alas - though safely nestled in my purse, my palm was history. Luckily I had it backed up! Now if I could just backup (and fix the OS on) my Verizon/Motorola Razr V3m - I hear the non-Verizon-dumbed-down product is pretty good.

Thumbs down

Well, now something REALLY weird happened! I had only sync'd my z22 once, and when I looked at it this AM everything was there EXCEPT all my appointments! So something went bollics up during that sync... I looked in KPilot and there isn't any appointment stuff in there (the addresses are there) - so it's gone - poof. Did I set something up wrong? Is this a known problem with KPilot? Dare I try again?

That's exactly what I use my PDA for....to back up addresses and appointment stuff I have in Evolution email. Sadly, with whatever occurred with SUSE 10.2 and Evolution, it no longer works. It did work fine in previous versions. Now, after sync, all I have are gray bars where the information should be. If I try to sync from Evolution back to the Sony PDA, all I find is garbled characters. It does work fine with KPilot, however.

Smart move with the real motorcycle armor in Los Angeles. I rode a motorcycle there for many years and always wore the armor. I still ride the motorcycle, but in a far less crowded area.

Cheers,
