Hello,

I've got a new Asus M2A-VM board and AMD 4800+ processor. The Motherboard has AMD's 690G chipset and an onboard ATI Radeon X1250.

I've installed openSUSE 10.3 64 bit.

During the initial installation steps, all of my hardware is properly identified. My problem comes up after the installation. When I click the My Computer icon, it hangs at "Looking up CPU Info". The computer isn't hung up, just this task.

I've tried to sort this out for hours. Even went into Yast - Hardware. It gets hung up on detecting printer. I've tried this with a printer attached and with a printer not attached. Same thing both times.

Any ideas??

Just finished installing the 32 bit version on this machine. Everything is working fine. I should probably just leave this as they are but
I can't....or at least I don't want to.

Sorry about slipping in to your thread but I have the same problem, just a little different. I also run 10.3 x64.

I just upgraded my CPU from an AMD +5200 x2 to a +6000 x2 on a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo and had to flash the BIOS for it to be recognized. I dual boot with Win XP Pro x64 it has no problem seeing the new CPU & Suse 10.3 x64 has no other problems except for this sysinfo problem with My Computer icon on the desktop, it just hangs looking for cpu info..

So I also need to know how to get Suse to redetect hardware as I am a linux noob.

Does going to System>Monitor>KInfocenter work for detecting the CPU?
How about in YaST>Hardware>Hardware information?

For me both Kinfocenter & YaST Hardware Information detect and report the new +6000 CPU no problem.

Sounds like a bug in Sysinfo. Might wish to file a bug report
http://en.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports
Or if all else works OK you might wait to see if 11.0 has the same problem.

Hi from rushman,

I am not strong on linux, but this is what I found.

On changing to an Asus M2N32 ws Pro motherboard with an AMD 6400 dual core. I had no Sysinfo and the Amd 6400 was not reconised. I updated the bios, the 6400 was reconised but still no Sysinfo. This was with Suse 10.3

I loaded 11.0 beta 2 but still sysinfo was no available.

I have borrowed a GigabyteM619-s3, Sysinfo works , the 6400 cpu is reconised but no sound.
As 11.0 beta 3 is due today, I have not tried Beta 2

As soon as I can install it I will post what hapens. I would guess a bios problem, but I am a no nothing.

regards rushman
