does the screen go like this with both vlc and mplayer? have you tried downloading the media codec package for kaffeine? updated relevant drivers and kernel?

use aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf maybe? (do sax2 -r -m 0=radeon first)

Yes..........it occurs in both apps...........I have installed all relevant codecs.............It definitely looks to be a driver issue because if I revert tom the framebuffer driver , all works fine. I am having problems with uninstalling the ATI Driver form my system...........If I try to load the rpm that i have created........it complains about libfglrx.so.1 that already exists but completes the install.........BUT if I try to configure SAX2 , I Find that it reverts to Framebuffer driver.

id recomend this...
sax2 -r -m 0=radeon -- if radeon card or
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
remove the ati driver,
download and run the 8.40.4 driver installer, do not generate a RPM, rather just go thru installer, let it do its work
then do aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
then reboot and make sure its all good, then if its ok then do gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl and see how xgl does. enjoy!
