After setting up openSUSE 10.3, it seems there are some java related issue which I first noticed with maple - resolved, but now eclipse will not load giving the following error:
Quote:
JVM terminated. Exit code=13
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0.u3.sr2-sun-1.6.0.u3/jre/bin/java
-jar /usr/share/eclipse/./plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar
-os linux
-ws gtk
-arch x86_64
-showsplash
-launcher /usr/lib64/eclipse/eclipse
-name Eclipse
--launcher.library /usr/lib64/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.linux.x86_64_1.0. 0.v20070606/eclipse_1017a.so
-startup /usr/share/eclipse/./plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar
-exitdata 17a001d
-vm /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0.u3.sr2-sun-1.6.0.u3/jre/bin/java
-vmargs
-jar /usr/share/eclipse/./plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar
[/b]
further details; I have 32-bit java v1.6 installed for 32-bit Mozilla. I also have 64-bit java v1.5 installed.
I would appreciate suggestions...Thanks

Mmm is this a case of 32bit versus 64bit I guess perhaps if you make them add up it'll work.

So I presume you'll have to decide, if you want 1.6 as 64it then I suggest presuming you kept 1.5 that you then use that as 32bit for ff. Or perhaps you could install 32bit eclipse maybe the easiest. Or find out how to point eclipse at java 1.5 if its still installed.

Either way I see problems say you want to test 1.6 then I presume you'll have problems if 64bit and 32bit browser.

Its too late for me to try if you've not solved it I'll have a crack at it tomorrow.

I'd personally go for eclipse as 32bit first see if that works. Then at least you'll be able to test it and you wont have to sort out all the java paths I suspect that will get messed up the other way.

My post should have been how can I point eclipse to java. but I will try test your hypothesis and see, though others without the 32-bit vs 64-bit are also experiencing this issue which seems to be unique to 64-bit environment.

Well I did try didn't go for removing my 1.6 and never quite found how to change the default vm.

But from googling I saw mentions of eclipse.ini can't exactly remember where it is, but they said it should take -vm /path/to/java eclipse just didn't seem to want to honour it.

Now the bad news without exactly checking on another distro. I can tell you that what I presume are untouched java and eclipse versions java 1.6.0_03-b05 eclipse 3.3.1.1 works perfectly fine both 64bit.

Now as you know there is a few bug reports I saw 4 one at eclipse about javadoc and 3 at novell.

If I'm honest I'm not liking 10.3 so much, the 64bit transparency I'd got use to is a lot less so now.

You have to be able to load eclipse before you can do that....
In any case, What I did was download the eclipse tar executables which i extract i run from my home folder and it works fine.

Thanks for the assistance. I still think there may be some issues with java in openSUSE 10.3, but I could be wrong. It may just be that those two programs that encountered errors were related to those programs specifically.

Hey LXUSER, I am getting the same error HOWEVER only when I user on of the alternative versions:

Quote:
There are 4 programs which provide `java'.

Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
* 1 /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.5.0-sun/bin/java
+ 2 /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.6.0.u3.sr2-sun/bin/java
3 /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.4.2-cacao/bin/java
4 /usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java

Enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number:
[/b]
Any one other than 2, gives me the error above same as you, BUT no 2 gives me a different error. HOWEVER I KNOW that it does work - I was using eclipse before and it was loading fine BUT the GE wasn't working and when I tried to fix it - I messed it up!!!!!

TRY installing java 1.6 and then let me know what happens.
