I ve updated from suse10.2 686 to 10.3 x86x64 of a PC with a 64bits PentiumD 915 processor.
This update of the distribution has not been made with a new installation but by DVD update.
From this time ,my yast fails: if I click "Installer et supprimer des logiciels"(Install and remove softwares) , it prompts a windows with title xmessage, and inside:
"No such client module sw_single
Run 'yast2 -h' for help on usage"

and all others topics fail too.

I own Smart package manager, and when I ask for "sudo smart upgrade yast",
It says: "No interesting update available" ,yast2 too but idem
So how can I restore a functional Yast

Did you try to get a manual update?
Install / remove software by yast.
Instead of search you can look at package group en clic zz-all
and then by update all packages.
It must be possible to do so i hope it will get you a working update of yast too.

Not really surprising that things got messed up going from 10.2 x86 to 10.3 64bit.
Do you have a separate /home partition?
If you do i suggest you do a clean update.
Follow my guide here
