Is my Core 2 Duo 64bit?

Is there any benefit to running a 64bit operating system other than bragging rights to my mates?

Yes intel core 2 duo is 64 bit.
I don't think you will notice much different in speed between 32 or 64bit version of suse. Only if you have a lot of RAM (> 4Gb), you need 64bit operating system to use it.
The advantage of 32bit over 64bit is that you will have less problems with multimedia-stuff in your browser (firefox). I use 64 bit operating system and that is the only problem I have...

By now if you've cruised other threads you've seen this can turn into a religious debate. It appears to be highly dependent upon your particular usage model.

I recently did a fresh 10.2 install due to new mobo and dual-core x64. I used the 64-bit vsn this time. On another drive I have the previous SUSE 32-bit. BTW, my system is also heavily overclocked.

In **my** particular situation, I've noticed better performance, as expected primarily in heavy multi-tasking, etc. One thing nice about SUSE is that the 64-bit is actually a hybrid, so you don't have most of the missing pieces in a "pure" 64-bit. But there still are a few extra choices and steps required such as for multimedia. flash, etc.

This is a case where "YMMV" is especially true.
