My systems is

Mirai 22" monitor
NVidia 880GTX GC
SUSE 10.2 (64bit)
QUAD Core Intel 6700
2Gb Memory

and I can't for the life of me persuade the machine to run at the proscribed 1680x1050 through the VESA setting (as Mirai monitors aren't listed).

Before the latest upgrade I had gone through the manual install of the NVidia drivers, and added them into the install process for upgrades, and run the cmd "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia" as root. This got me to the point where it understood I had an nvidia card but not the exact one (fair enough as the drivers didn't seem to suggest that they supported the 880GTX) and allowed a VESA setting of about 1600x1050 so it was usable...

However since the latest upgrade, Sax2 now recognises the 880GTX board (but doesn't show any special settings for it) but gives only a few (20 odd) VESA options none of which are even close to the 1680x1050 that I need. I've tried the Alt F2 and this doesn't work...

I'm a novice SUSE user so 'slow replies' would be a boon to me as none of the numerous books I have on SUSE Linux has helped at all so...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pete

Does the Nvidia X Server Settings provide a higher resolution (find in Additional packages in Menu)?
or start from command line /usr/bin/nvidia-settings
If not you will need to edit xorg.conf to provide a modeline.

Ah, I've solved it.

Manually installed the NVidia drivers (it was recognising the card but nothing more) and then used the LCD 1680-1050 setting. Had a bit of trouble finding the kernal source but all seems well.

Thanks
