hello,

using Open SuSE 10.2 x86_64 on
ASROCK 939Dual-SATA2
CPU AMD 3800+ single core
Video Asus/Nvidia GeForce PCI-ex 6800
lan Agere et131x gigabit pci-ex
installed from
openSUSE-10.2-GM-DVD-x86_64.iso

I'm very happy with this install, but I noticed something in the opengl screensavers that might be
related to KDE 3.5.5 on x86_64.

Some of the 3D effects are broken -- take a look at "end game" when the chess pieces are moved then there is a flaw in the foreground eclipse ... the pieces get blended together instead of properly eclipsed.

I had the same trouble when I updated the KDE in 10.1 x86_64 to 3.5.5 ... I rolled it back when the 3D broke.

tia for your help,
Mark

If anyone wants to see that this screensaver is OK do
>/usr/lib64/xscreensaver/endgame

the 3D effects are OK. Somehow KDE 3.5.5 cripples it when viewed from kdesktop.

bye,
Mark

I have noticed this as well. The problem is only related to nvidia cards running the nvidia X driver. The z-buffer seems to be switched. They do not do this when you switch to the nv X driver. But that does not solve the issue as the nv driver gives horrible performance. I did not notice that the screensavers work fine when run without kdesktop. I did however see that glxgears looks fine when run from the command line but the gears screensaver is reversed.

I did read somewhere the nvidia cards have the z-buffer switched internally.

I have also noticed this on x86 hardware as well as x86_64.
