Hi all

Some 6200 issues on SuSE 10.1

1) First, the Gnome Desktop config window tells me 3D acceleration is not supported by this card? Can anyone verify? the card is also recognised as Nvidia unknown

2) Mboard : MSI RS482M4-IL
3) GeForce 6200LE-TD 128E

About 10 seconds after i start X using XGL, complete freeze requiring hard restart.

I cannot find an option on by BIOS to set the AGP from 4x to 2x.

I have installed the driver from the Nvidia site, although it did state that it is for 6300 and up? Is there no Linux x86_64 driver for 6200?

Now, i don't 'need' XGL, but i certainly WANT it! All advice will be kindly accepted :-)

Many thanks

64 bit driver is here http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display...4_1.0-8762.html
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2. SUSE LINUX 10.1-AMD64 (Beta)
1) Kernel sources must be installed and configured. Usually this means
installing the 'kernel-source', 'make' and 'gcc' packages with YaST2.

2) Use the nvidia installer for 1.0-8762.

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8762-pkg2.run -q

3) Configure X.Org with

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia (0 is a digit, not a letter!)

NOTE: There is no need to try to enable 3D support. It's already
enabled, when the nvidia driver is running.

IMPORTANT: You need to recompile and install the nvidia kernel module
after each kernel update.

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8762-pkg2.run -K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The driver works perfect with GeForce 5200 and 6200 cards.

For XGL to work I had to add the following file
/etc/X11/xgl-cards-white-list

and enter the line in it
nvidia.*

Then XGL recognised the card.

does it just freeze when you are using xgl or with all apps ? coud be a power supply prob, not getting enough power ? have you done a memtest ? just a few ideas ( personaly haven't got a 64bit system ) you could investigate

Thanks for the advice Andy

It seems ok for the first 20 seconds or so, i can cube it, move windows, play with it. Sometimes that will just freeze up after 20 seconds or so, sometimes if i open a new app/window and sometimes before the wmanager is even fully loaded.

I am running 1gb DDR with a 128mb card, so i don't think thats the issue.

Is it worth trying Xgi without the NVIDIA driver (using the default SuSE kernel driver)?

FWIW, so far I haven't got xgl working on on-board nForce boards using the 6200 graphic chip yet it works on pretty much any other nvidia board, including the on-board 6150 set.

mm, thanks.

That's pretty iffy, one of the reasons i purchased the GeForce was for this :-(

What is support on ATI X300 onboard like?

Just bad luck I guess - perhaps the next nVidia driver will improve the support, the 6150 was only included in the last (current -1) release.

ATI drivers can be a bag of worms - nVidia is the better bet, but one with a chip you know is well supported.
Of course, avoiding on-board sets if your budget allows would also be a better bet.

Thanks.

I'll just wait patiently then for better support for the 6200.

Thanks again
